December 02, 1999:
The confidential intermediary that has been working on my case, called me today to let me know that she had contacted my birthmother and that my birthmother did want the "letter to my birthmother" that I wrote in April of this year. A copy of that letter can be found on this site. She ( the CI ) also stated that the next step would be for my b-mom to respond to my letter with a letter and a picture of her own, then if we both agree, we would have to sign waivers releasing "Catholic Charities" from any legal liability, then she would send my b-mom all of my information (name, phone #, address, etc.) and would send me her information as well.
December 04, 1999:
Recieved the waiver for release of information to my b-mom in the mail. I signed it and sent it off.
December 16, 1999:
I recieved call from the Confidential Intermediary: my B-mom signed the waiver for release of information. I was given her name and told she lived in Iowa. I was also given my sister's phone number in Oregon where my b-mom was on vacation for the holidays. Called twice and talked to my birthmother. Exchanged e-mails with my sister and one brother. We made plans for a reunion in Oregon on December 19, 1999.
December 18, 1999:
My wife, kids, and I left Washington State headed for the reunion in Oregon. My brother will have his 25th b-day while we are there on Dec. 20. Will update when we return.
Decomber 19, 1999:
At 11:20 AM, I was reunited with my birthmother. A couple hours later, I met one of my brothers, and my sister. The similarities in physical features was amazing. After the first meeting, all doubt about finding the right b-mom had been removed. My mom and I talked for about an hour or so alone. There were some sensitive subjects on both of our parts that we wanted to discuss. The reunion was more than I had ever hoped it could have been.
Decomber 20, 1999:
Celebrated my brother Alan's birthday in Salem, Oregon. It may seem strange, but I came into the family as an outsider on December 19, but by 8:00 PM on December 20, it seemed as if I had been part of the family for many years. We all exchanged phone numbers and e-mail addresses. We will be staying in touch.
Decomber 26, 1999:
My b-mom is headed back home to Iowa. She and her husband stopped at my house in Washington and spent the night with us. We were able to watch video's of my family's christmas morning, and I was able to see my new nephews open thier christmas presents.
Decomber 27, 1999:
My b-mom stopped in Idaho at my adoptive dad's home and visited with him. They stayed at my dad's house, and are both (a-dad & b-mom) very comfortable with the reunion.
January 3, 2000:
Plans have been made for my adoptive sister and birth sister and birth brother to meet with me in Portland later this month. With this meeting, both families will have become one. Thank you Lord Jesus.
January 14, 2000:
I have found out that I have cousins in the area here where I live. I talked by phone to one (Geneva) two nights ago, and talked to the other (Robert) tonight. We have made plans for all of us to meet on January 22 in Walla Walla.
